This is the only new stone (so far!) this year.
It started out as a joke, but also has a sad back story
(not boo-hoo sad, but eye-roll / sigh / shaking head sad).
Ya see. the Spawn has had some bad luck with her vehicles.
On the right is Lorenzo, a 2000 Ford Escort. I drove him for 12 years and handed him down when Spawn got her driver's license. She got t-boned on the passenger side a few months later. Then a friend rear-ended her, and replaced the rear bumper. Then she got up close & personal to a white SUV one February morning on the way to the dance studio.
On the left is Gertrude. A 2005 Pontiac G6. Gertrude also fell victim to a white SUV. About a mile from the first one. On the same street. This time leaving the dance studio. A week shy of one year from Lorenzo's demise! (fun fact - it was still driveable!! I don't know for how long, but she was able to drive it into a nearby parking lot)
Next February she's going to be Ubering everywhere.
I don't want to have to add Reginald to the stone!
So.
I started out with a 2'x4' sheet of plywood.
I got the license plate blanks (in old-school Michigan plate blue) online for like $2 each.
The letters are 4" stickers from Lowes.
After a few rough sketches, I decided on a head-on (HA!!) view of a car for the shape of the stone.
The car body & side mirrors took up most of the sheet of plywood, so the tires were made from scrap that I had floating around in the garage.
I coated it with DryLok first, so it had some protection, then simply used spraypaint for the rest.
I'm quite pleased with the colors, since Lorenzo was dark green & Gertrude was a dark teal.
I wasn't sure where we were going to put it in the cemetery, but as we were setting up, I leaned it against the fence & it seems to be a good place for it! This is where I usually shine my little floating ghost spotlight so I really hope it looks like the ghosts are flying up out of the stone!
Fortiac = Ford / Pontiac if you didn't catch that earlier.
Here's it up against a neutral background so you can see it better.
The plates aren't attached very well yet so they're a bit wonky, but they'll do for now.
I'm considering using a white paint pen to put their years under the respective plates - it would look more like a "real" headstone then.
Countdown to Halloween
