Claudio Ranieri has signed a two years contract with the Serie A club AS ROMA. The former Juventus, Valencia and Chelsea coach accepts to replace Luciano Spalletti, who resigned with two years still running on his contract

Claudio Ranieri (Above / Picture AP) is finally an happy man as he is full filling every sports men's life long dream to manage his home town football club. The long Odyssey away from his home town and where he last played thirty five years ago, a football career journey that took him like a modern Odysseus - along the Mediterranean and as far as the British Islands shores - has finally ended. The 57 years old Roman born coach is from today in charge of Serie A and UEFA Europa Cup club A. S. Roma and finally among the trust of his beloved citizens.
Event full day
AS Roma long day started in the morning and went through the resignation of Spalletti at midday and continued throughout the afternoon until the announcement was made at 18.10 when Ranieri and Sensi finally reached an agreement. He will now coach AS Roma 'Giallo-rossi' for the next two years.
Negotiations
Earlier in the afternoon Mattia Grassani, Ranieri's lawyer visited the Giallorossi's sports center of Trigoria to meet the team executives to find an agreement. "I'm here to make a counter proposal non-negotiable - said Grassani upon arrival ''Within a few hours it will be resolved one way or another, but the parties are close although some details need to be worked out. "There are some things to clarify - Grassani says - and it will require some sacrifice from both sides''. The issue concerned the technical staff who Ranieri want to bring along with him.
Players' endorsement
Few minutes earlier Totti and De Rossi came out from Villa Pacelli, residence and offices of the Sensi's, where they have been summoned in the afternoon by AS ROMA's President Rossella Sensi to inform them of the situation after the resignation of Spalletti and the now discounted arrival of Ranieri. It is understood the two World Champions and the team's most representative players endorsed the new coach.
Spalletti's farewell
Former coach Luciano Spalletti has left the sports center of Trigoria at 17.00 where he went to clear office desk and his lockers' room. An emotional Spalletti said said: "It was my decision to leave. It was the best thing I could do for Rome and for Roma. The team and city have given me a lot"
Morning meeting
Claudio Ranieri arrived early in the morning from his holidays stay in Sardinia, along with Prada and Bruno Conti and went straight to meet the Sensi's at Villa Pacelli. After an hour and a half of talks however the former coach Juventus left the Villa in a car without releasing statements to the journalists.
