We continue with rather dismal grey January days here in the land of nine miles by five. Oppressive leaden skies that do nothing to instil pleasure to our days. Last Wednesday was the notable exception. A real 'Mr Blue Sky' day that had my toes a-tapping and my pulse quicken. We headed for a coastal walk to make the most of the blue. Blue skies, blue sea. Middle of the afternoon and we walked alone. Just the cry from some oyster catches foraging at the slowly advancing tide.
At the water's edge we spotted a strange amphibious tractor pushing out to sea a rather large white crate. Watching, intrigued, we saw an orange craft emerge. The penny dropped, realising the inshore lifeboat was being launched. Had there been a shout for help? Doubtful on such a perfect day. After a few minutes it made its way in a leisurely fashion out to the middle of the bay. Clearly on manoeuvres ; why not on such a lovely day.
Continuing along the coastal path we watched fields being ploughed and covered with the dreaded plastic sheeting. Some say it looks artistic but I'm always glad when the fields return to their natural state. There were a plethora of seabirds enjoying the sun too. Egrets and a heron sat perched up high on a sheltered nook, lapping up the weak rays of light. More oyster catches paddled in the rippled water's edge and gulls were in the majority.
Returning home we were in time to catch the golden rays of late afternoon and a few more seabirds. A perfect way to end a golden day.
Hope you've had the odd blue sky day recently to cheer away winter gloom. Barbara xxx
