President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has reacted to reports that members of the National Assembly will receive a combined wardrobe allowance worth nearly N9 billion.
Saraki who posted on his official twitter platform revealed that Senators will only get N506, 600 instead of N21.5 million reported by the media. The total amount will be N55, 219, 400 for 109 senators.
He also disclosed that all allowances due to members of the National Assembly will be reviewed by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) to reflect current economic trend. Mr. Saraki assured Nigerians that the 8th Senate will be people-centered.
Taking to social media, Saraki wrote: “Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation & fiscal Commission was in my office to clarify wardrobe allowance. Amount is N506,600 per Senator.”
“Fixing of renumeration of political office holders is sole responsibility of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation & Fiscal Commission.”
“With the current challenges we are facing as a nation, RMFAC will be reviewing allowances to reflect the current economic trend.
“I have just being informed that RMFAC will be publishing details of allowances on their website.” According to the reports, each of the 360 lawmakers at the House of Representatives is expected to get about N17.5 million while the 109 senators would have a share of N21.5 million each.
This aggravated angry Nigerians, resulting to widespread controversy and mockery on social media.
