Grammy award-winning songstress, Dolly Parton is well known for lending her name to all sorts of charitable and philanthropic causes but this Christmas season, she has just one wish, and it's not for herself.
According to ABC News, the iconic country superstar is looking for a kidney donor for her longtime friend and personal lawyer, Jerry Edelstein.
The 69-year-old posted a video on YouTube on Thursday explaining that Jerry had been waiting for an organ for some years but recently learned from his doctors that he is going into renal failure.
Dolly said 'Jerry and I have been friends for several decades now and he’s one of the finest people in the whole world,' Jerry also represents singer, Jon Bon Jovi.
While others will wish for an expensive car or property, Parton was self less. She said 'As the holiday season is upon us, one of my wishes is for a new kidney for Jerry.'
It seems the generous star would have given her longtime friend one of her own kidneys if she had been a good match.
The singer has teamed up with the Flood Sisters Kidney Foundation Of America in the hope of finding a suitable kidney. Dolly asked her fans to see if they could assist by visiting the organisation's website.
She directed her fans to visit a special online page dedicated to the cause. She further pleaded 'Please do because he’s so sweet and precious!'
Dolly Parton who has a big heart has been supporting many charitable efforts since the 80's. Her efforts are particularly in the area of literacy, primarily through her Dollywood Foundation.
Her literacy program - Dolly Parton's Imagination Library which is a part of the Dollywood Foundation, mails one book per month to each enrolled child from the time of their birth until they enter kindergarten.
Currently over 1600 local communities provide the Imagination Library to almost 850,000 children each and every month across the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia. The program distributes more than 10 million free books to children annually.
The 'Coat Of Many Colors singer has won 8 Grammy Awards, 2 Academy Award nominations, 10 Country Music Association Awards, 7 Academy of Country Music Awards, 3 American Music Awards, and is one of only 7 female artists to win the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year Award. Parton has received 46 Grammy nominations, tying her with Bruce Springsteen for the most Grammy nominations and placing her in tenth place overall.
